Coconut pulling oil with mint and stevia
The method of oil pulling is centuries old, but beauty and cosmetic aficionados are turning to this ancient technique in order whiten teeth and freshen breath without the use of nasty chemicals or expensive trips to the dentist. The consistency of the oil is thought to coat your teeth and physically pull the plaque from your teeth and gums – but don’t worry, pulling oil isn’t the same as pulling teeth! This method doesn’t hurt. Removing this unwanted plaque is believed to attribute to whiter teeth and fresher breath, as the ‘bad bacteria’ which had been lodged in your teeth and gums is now removed.
Why coconut oil for teeth pulling? Coconut oil is prized for its high content of lauric acid – a substance sometimes extracted from coconut to develop monolaurin. Monolaurin has effective antimicrobial properties which help fight bacteria, yeasts, viruses and other pathogens.
We love eating coconut oil directly from the jar, but we know coconut oil can be an acquired taste for some. Therefore, we added a natural sweetener called stevia, and peppermint oil to create a sweeter and fresher taste. As well its exceptionally fresh and recognizable scent and taste, peppermint oil is a great addition to oral health due to its antimicrobial properties, boosting those found in the coconut oil. We use stevia as a natural sweetener in several Primal Cure products, including SlimShotz and our Vitamin C effervescent tablets. We love that Stevia is a natural, plant-derived sweetener – meaning no artificial sweetener is needed!
Coconut pulling oil, even with added peppermint and stevia, can take a little getting used to. So, while we advise swilling in your mouth for 5 to 15 minutes, most people find they need to start with 1 minute, then build up to the full 15 minutes.
Warm the pack in your hand until you feel it has turned into a liquid. Open the sachet and squeeze into mouth. Swirl for between 5 and 15 minutes. Spit out into a bin (PLEASE NOTE: don’t put down sink or toilet as it may solidify and cause blockage). For best results swirl daily and before brushing teeth.
